Principium Latin App Reviews

Superb

This app is possibly the most impressive language learning program I think Ive seen, especially as a companion tool for Wheelocks Latin. It is a great way to drill the vocabulary and paradigms. I would love to see them design a similar app for Classical Greek, maybe using Hansen and Quinns intensive Greek course as outline. The only complaint I have doesnt regard the program itself, but I am not a huge fan of the nude classic artwork, and would love to see them change the background image for the "forms" page.

A very helpful companion

This app is great for really teaching yourself all the little things about Latin vocabulary and grammar. It matches the book exactly (as far as I can tell) in terms of chapter grammar and vocabulary. The practice pages are great and you can turn off macrons or not depending on your dedication level. You can keep quizzing yourself over and over until youre happy with your level of mastery, and if you get stuck, answers are only one click away. If you havent yet memorized your declensions or conjugations this app will really help in that regard. It would be nice if a future version of this app included the pronunciation audio files, and perhaps more of the supplemental content from the textbook. I really like the way it automatically puts in stems once youve mastered them so you dont have to keep typing them and you can focus on the endings. This is exactly the app I was looking for, the developers did a very good job, I highly recommend it.

A really helpful app

Follows Wheelock perfectly and does exactly what it says. A great way to study forms and vocabulary through the Wheelock chapters. It encourages you to use capital letters to get a macron (which you have the option to use or not), but on iOS, you can just hold down the vowel and choose the macron. *Would really like to see an iPad version, though.

what’s the point?

this does nothing the book doesn’t: nothing interactive, no quizzes or drills, nothing creative at all. why not make little memory games to identify gerunds or graphics/pics to help assoc vocab words or there’s just so many things this app fails at-just buy a notebook instead

A nice companion app

This is a very helpful addition to the Wheelock text. I love the glossary (especially the pronunciation!) and appreciate the form and vocabulary drills. It could use an update to fix overlapping windows, as data entry fields frequently obscure key information below.

Excellent companion to Wheelock

This is an excellent companion to Wheelock’s textbook. Vocab practice, exercises, sentences, all very nice to have to practice. I do wish the developer would make it more IPad friendly. That is making it able to autorotate, so a keyboard can be used with the app.

As good as the book

This app is perfect for anyone trying to get there Latin off the ground. It provides a way to easily and efficiently review your Latin forms or vocabulary on the go.

Good app, just one annoying problem

Please allow a sideways view of the app! I cannot see the full definition of words with more than one meaning, such as cura, consilium, and many others. Other than that, it’s a fine app, and it gets the job done.

No complaints, only praise!

Could the app be better? Maybe. Are there issues? Possibly. Is it the best app for Latin? Definitely. I would be lost without this app.

Pretty Great!

Like others have stated before me, the present passive infinitive for the third conjugation is incorrect and chapters 26 and 27 do crash every time you attempt to open them. Other than that I really love this app and everything about it I hope the issues with the chapters get fixed! FTR: I do not find the art in the app inappropriate. It is a mosaic of the ancient myth of Leda and the Swan.

Crashes in Chapters 26 & 27. Needs update.

The app crashes in Chapters 26 & 27. (I am using iOS 10.2.1.) This bug needs to be fixed! My previous comment, which accompanied a 5-star review, is below. An Indispensable App or Latin Learners! I love this app. It has helped me with both paradigms and vocabulary. My only criticism is that it will not work in landscape mode or with external keyboards. I use the app on my iPad, as well as my iPhone, and when I do I would like to use the keyboard, and that requires switching to landscape mode.

Excellent study aid; a few fixes needed

Overall I am very pleased with this app; the form and vocab drills are well constructed and easy to use, even with added macrons. Having the dictionary built in is also very helpful. I did notice at least one error, however: the passive present infinitive of 3rd conjugation verbs is incorrect; the app gives "ageri" instead of "agi," for example. There may be other errors, but none I have found so far. Aslo, the nude mosaic background is quite inappropriate, and ought to be changed.
